ROBERT D CLAPPERTON'S Daylight Photographic Studio


The photographic business of Robert D Clapperton has successfully traded in the Royal Burgh of Selkirk, guided by THREE generations of the same family.

Robert D Clapperton                    1832 - 1918

Founder of the Photographic business in 1867.
In these early days of photography he was required
to produce all his own photographic chemicals,
negatives and paper.
His photographic work was primarily on
Carte-de-Visit
e and Cabinet portraites.

William Mitchell                            1869 - 1942

Second generation of the Photographic business.
Prolific photographer who won many awards for his work.
Responsible for the introduction of post card  photography into the business and also photo-journalism for
local and national newspapers and magazines.

William McLean Mitchell              1899 - 1986

Third generation of the same family of photographers at
Clapperton's studios.
Willie started in the business when he was 13 year old and
worked as a photographer for 70 years.
Covered a wide remit of work as press, social, sports,
medical and industrial photographer.
